Advanced course work, assignments, and maybe even the start of your projects. I would suggest studying for the GRE during the holidays (either christmas or summer holidays) and writing it immediately after the holidays. you will need about two months of solid preparation , so I would suggest summer holidays. Many B-Schools have started accepting the GRE scores. And the GRE new format (after August 2011) tests you on several measures which were found only in GMAT. One thing is, the Critical Reasoning Section. Now in the GRE, you will have questions involving critical reasoning, though these are not as difficult as those found in the GMAT. Also there is more verbal reasoning and less of vocabulary in the new format GRE, which is another measure tested in the GMAT.
