If you take up the GRE computer-based test, your score in the quant and verbal section reflects the number of questions you have answered correctly during the time allotted in the GRE test. Both the quant and verbal section of the GRE are section-level adaptive, that is the computer decides on the level of next question, based on the performance of a candidate in the previous question. In case of analytical writing, the essays are marked by a qualified reader and an e-rater, an automated scoring engine developed by ETS. The score of the individual and e-rater is then averaged to mark the essay section of GRE applicants.
In the case of paper-based GRE, the quant and verbal section score depend on the number of questions answered correctly. For the analytical section of paper-based GRE, essays are marked by two different human examiners, and an average of both the score is offered to the students. If both the scores differ by more than one point, then the marking procedure is taken over by a third examiner.
There is no deduction of GRE score for answering wrong. And if you do not answer a single question during the test, that question will be marked NS (no score).
You can also accept or cancel scores after receiving your unofficial GRE 2018 score report. Once you view your GRE general test 2018 scores, you cannot cancel it, and you also do not have the option to cancel scores for any particular section. If you cancel the GRE 2018 test scores you will not be available to review nor report to the institutions and universities chose during the GRE 2018 test registration. The fee will not be refunded, and the scores will not be visible in the report able history section of your ETS accounts.
The score select option of GRE allows you to take up the test multiple times. It also gives you a chance to select the best score of the session, which you can then forward it to B-schools or graduate colleges.
You can do this in two ways:
1. On the test day, you can send your GRE test scores to the institutions of choice. You can either send the most recent – present scores from GRE 2018 report, or all score reports – scores from all the GRE tests taken in the last five years.
2. After the test day if you want to send the scores to institutions more than the four free score reports you will have to pay extra. You can send the most recent – present scores from GRE 2018 report, or all score reports – scores from all the GRE tests taken in the last five years, or any – scores from one or as many tests taken in the last five years.
