This actually is an English language concept. We need to use “a” before words that start with a consonant sound and “an” before words that start with a vowel sound. Since "Yo" sounds as a consonant, "a" Yoga is correct

Practising and learning yoga from past 5 years and have been taking online classes since lockdown.

Placing 'a' or 'an' before a word has originated from English grammar. We place 'a' before consonants and 'an' before vowels. Since 'y' in yoga is a consonant so 'a yoga' would be correct. But yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning union so from Hindi language perspective none would be correct.

Original word is yog not yoga . It is English style to suffix a for many Indian words 'a' and secondly an or a I think in case traditional Indian word we should not follow each every eglish grammer for translation . It is not compulsory to follow English grammar always .

We have to keep some original and only Indian are always easily ready to change and changing eventually we will lost our original language , acsent , pronunciation everything if we each and every keep following English language and their culture.

So original word is yog and we are practicing yogasan not yogasana .

Thank you
