It can vary in intensity but generally involves movement. Yin yoga, on the other hand, involves holding passive poses for longer periods, often three to five minutes or more, with a focus on deep stretching and relaxation. Target Tissues: Hatha yoga primarily targets muscles and may also engage connective tissues to some extent. Yin yoga, however, targets the connective tissues, such as ligaments, tendons, and fascia, promoting flexibility and joint mobility. Energetic Focus: Hatha yoga often incorporates breathwork (pranayama) and meditation alongside physical postures to balance energy in the body. Yin yoga also includes breath awareness and mindfulness, but it focuses more on cultivating relaxation and surrendering into the poses. Purpose: Hatha yoga is often practiced to improve overall physical fitness, flexibility, and mental clarity. Yin yoga, on the other hand, is particularly beneficial for increasing flexibility, releasing tension, and promoting relaxation, making it a great complement to more active forms of yoga or exercise. read less
