The purpose of meditation is not to get attached with your thoughts or feelings. By practicing mindfulness you are not forcefully concentrating but you are training your mind to just be aware of the thoughts and let them go.
Effects of meditation are numerous, to name a few:
- You are more in control of your thoughts and it's not the other way
- You train your mind to detatch from feelings
- You become more composed and balanced

Hi, you can practice mindfulness in your day to day activities, for example you are at work you can still practice mindfulness at work. Anything that you do with passion and awareness requires your focus and mindfulness. Life is meaningless without mindfulness. You don't have to sit in a meditative posture for hours together to practice mindfulness...it can be done while working, while walking, while playing with your child etc...just be aware of your breath and focus on your body matter what you are doing.

Simple stretching exercises (sukshma Vyayama) like neck rotation, shoulder rotation, hands stretching, knee rotation etc can be done every 1- 2 hrs. Chair yoga can be practised like hasthauttanasana, paadahastha, simple twists can be performed while sitting on the chair. 2-3 mins meditation can also be done along with Mudras like chin mudra, gnana mudra, yoni mudra etc which reduces anxiety and stress at work place. Hope this helps.
