It is a new day, a new chapter of the same old life you have been living till now. However, this word "NEW year" adds meaning to everything, because this thought triggers your mind that you have another opportunity to do it this time you couldn't earlier, it gives you chills and excites you that you'll finally do it this time, adrenaline rushes through your veins and there's a different energy surging up in your body to crush it this time. People are more likely to stick to their new year's resolution made on 1st January than on any other day. Here's why the idea to think and promise to yourself about sticking to a resolution will fail and WHY do most people fail? It has nothing to determination but everything with the first step.
People create "BIG Vague goals". Give meaning to your goals. For instance, take yourself, you're 25 years old and you have spent all your last 25 years perfecting subconsciously your behaviour, you are the person what you have been doing for the past 25 years and have you have no idea how this pattern has shaped you to become irresistible to change even if it is good for you and you know it for sure. Add meaning to your goal, make it shorter and crystal clear.
- Make extremely small goals.
Get up and get a diary and write your goals on it rather than promising to yourself. Studies have shown writing it down improves your memory and increases the chances you'll stick to it. Small goals are key. For instance, if you want to run a Marathon, making this a goal and achieving it is extremely hard.
Create a goal that "I will only run for one minute tomorrow" That's it.
Get yourself out of bed and go run for only one minute, not a single second more, no more hustle, no more pushing yourself. Reward yourself with whatever you like and this is important as your brain releases dopamine when you complete a certain task releasing a feel-good hormone when it gets a reward, No wonder PUBG rules the heart of the teenagers over their brain because it is filled with virtual rewards and the brain is literally ignorant of the reality, it fails to distinguish between a virtual and a real reward. All those gold coins, gun skins, Crown and Ace league is a reward and the brain releases dopamine and makes them feel good and it is extremely easy to play PUBG over running physically because the goal is too big and you don't even reward yourself.
Did you run for one full minute? Wow! You are awesome. Chances are there will be a day when you will run for more than a minute, someday for three minutes, someday for 15 minutes, someday for an hour! Want to write blogs and articles? Get a diary and just write one word every day. On someday, you'll want to write more words and that is an inspiration to continue moving forward and someday who knows you are the next Shakespeare.
Just try to be 0.1% better than your yesterday. Compound interest is your intangible friend, closer to you than your mysterious crush "Angel Priya" on Facebook.
You'll only fail when you decide to start the gym from tomorrow, lose weight and get in shape. Your big vague goal in itself is a problem and you doubted your determination and will power. Again, create short goals.
It take 21 days to make or break a habit and 90 days to make it a lifestyle. Increase your goal intensity insubstantially every day. By the time the year ends, you'll be so fit and look in the mirror to admire yourself. That day isn't far, it is extremely far but you'll enjoy the journey of becoming 0.1% better than yesterday.
