There is no time limit for the state of meditation, it depends on your practice. It can last for a few moments, a few minutes, or even hours. What kind of place, how, for what are you practicing. Because meditation requires three things. First the meditator, second the technique of meditation and third the goal. And if there is clarity in all three then you can meditate. In the first stage of meditation, as you are aware of the changes happening around you towards the feelings happening inside you. And as you go on getting immersed in the practice, the fleeting sensations disappear and the whole meditation gets integrated with the technique, and as your awareness deepens, you will be left with only target meditation. When the mind becomes fixed on the goal, then the distractions of the mind will end. And there is no time limit to keep this state as long as you want. There is a very deep relationship between nature and the mind, meditation works to connect us with nature.
