Nitrogen fixation by the natural process has already been explained by Rouhina and Diksha above. On an industrial scale, it is a process by which nitrogen from the atmosphere is drawn from the atmosphere, liquefied and made to react with hydrogen (from Hydrocarbons like Naphtha or natural gas), fixed into a compound like Ammonia which is a gaseous and unstable compound. It's further converted into a stable compound like Urea and Calcium Ammonium Nitrate that are easy to transport and use on a large scale.
