The principles of management are basic must-be-guidelines for the practice of management. They help managers steer through organizational problems and are usually credited to Henri Fayol, a French mining engineer and management theorist. Fayol identified 14 principles of management that include:

1.Division of Labor: The concept of specialization increases output due to the efficiency of workers in their respective areas.

2.Authority and Responsibility: In management, those responsible for giving orders should possess the relevant authority and, at the same time, be held responsible that tasks are accomplished.

3.Discipline: Workers must abide by and show respect to the rules governing the organization.

4.Unity of Command: Each worker should receive orders from one superior only.

5.Unity of Direction: The organization should have one plan of action to guide managers and workers.

Subordination of Individual Interest to the General Interest: Interest of one employee or group should not stay above the interest of the organization as a whole.

6.Remuneration: Workers must be duly compensated for services rendered

7.Centralization: the extent to which subordinates are involved in decision making

8.Scalar Chain: The scalar chain refers to the line of authority from the top management to the lowest ranks

9.Order: People and materials should be in the right place at the right time

10.Equity: Managers should be kind and just to the subordinates.

11.Stability of Tenure of Personnel: High employee turnover is inefficient. There should be orderly personnel planning by the management, and at the same time, there should be replacements available to fill up vacancies.

12.Initiative: Employees who are allowed to originate and carry out plans will exert high levels of effort.

13.Esprit de Corps: The team spirit can be built up by promoting harmony and unity within the organization.
