India is a secular state as it ensures that people have the
freedom to change their religion whenever they want to. It
ensures that all the people have the freedom to live by
their religious beliefs and practices. No religious
community can gain power over the other religious
communities. No one can discriminate someone because they
belong to some other religion. There can be no
discrimination on grounds of caste, religion, color, creed
. The State can not promote one religion as the State
religion. We have the right to freedom to religion.

The preamble to the Constitution, which was amended in 1976, summarises the aims and objects of the Constitution. The importance and utility of the Preamble has been pointed out in several decisions of the Supreme Court. Though, by itself, it is not enforceable in a Court of Law, the Preamble to a written Constitution states the objects which the Constitution seeks to establish and promote and also aids the legal interpretation of Constitution where the language is found to be ambiguous.
The Preamble to our Constitution serves 2 purposes:
a) It indicates the source from which the Constitution derives it's authority;
b) It also states the objects which the Constitution seeks to establish and promote.
