India is a Secular Country because we have adopted it in the Constitution of India. It is mentioned in Preamble of Constitution that India stands to be a secular country.
We have a different form of Secularism. In western countries, Secular means, separation of State from Religion. In India, Along with this concept, we also recognise all religions and treat them equally.
Secularism is a modern state concept as there are other features of current state such as separation of powers, liberty, freedom etc.
India is called a secular country beacuse all religions given equal respect as well as protection ,the state has no religion of its own, there is no dicrimination on the ground of religion, every citizen can change his religion with out any fear if he or she wants to, no riligion can press other religion, no body can be forced to adopt.

of late, it look there is a struggle between leading religion, caste,. and others religio / castes/creed/ including foreigners are treated badly . hurt in name of clashes between these groups/ sects..can we call India ..a secular India.. may be nationalistic secular india or Nationalistic India in future ..looks likr that ..unless people in power see reason in retaining a Secular India ..
