The law of conservation of mass states that matter can neither be created not destroyed.it just gets converted into another forms...here the assertion is a balanced chemical equation of conversion of iron to iron oxide and hydrogen gas gets released...the reason is also correct because the number of ferrous ions on left equals to the number on right...same goes for H and O as well..hope you got the answer
