Why Should We Meditate?

The basic nature of human beings is happiness. We are born happy. As we grow, we receive millions of bits of information through sight, sound, smell, taste and touch and our basic state of happiness gradually changes to the state of fear, anxiety, and uncertainty. We start searching happiness outside the world around us. We strive to achieve our goals and achieve material possessions of various things with a firm belief to get back our basic state of happiness with which we were born. This search is unending. We do get momentary happiness and pleasure which vanishes fast, and it goes on. In this pursuit, we lose health, peace of mind and live in a state of stress and anxiety continuously. If we have to live with dignity and abundance the above process is essential but we have to find some other real and definite way to achieve happiness along with it. Let us try to examine this in a simple logical way. The happiness is our basic nature. We have lost it due to stress, anxiety, and feeling of uncertainty of future, a fear of something unknown which may deprive me of what I have achieved with great struggle. A constant feeling of unknown fear, something may wrong. It is clear when fear, stress, anxiety goes high the happiness goes low and when fear, stress, anxiety gets low the happiness goes high. Now the big question is how do we lower fear, stress, and anxiety?  It seems difficult, it is not, and it is easy if we entrain our mind. Now the question arises how do we do that?  To find an answer we look back to ancient life style. Our enlightened Gurus used to Meditate. Meditation in simplicity is a training of the mind to calm down. It is simple, take out twenty minutes daily out of your busy schedule to Meditate.
