The proper study includes going through a standard text, mainly a book. If you have problems in understanding the given text, you can take help from a knowledgable teacher, who can guide you and explain the study material lucidly. But, primarily you have to digest the text and understand it in your way. A teacher can show you the path of learning, but it is the student to get control of the subject matter. My suggestion is going through the text word by word and try to understand the meaning of each term. Initially, two to three times you may find it very dull, but after that, you would find it interesting whatever be the subject matters. Once it is interesting to you will be attentive and enjoy it.
In my view, learning a study material is more comfortable than getting hold of any performing arts like singing, dancing, acting.
