Every engineering course has a strong tilt on physics, and no exception are the IITs.
Hence, from the very first entrance exam stage of IIT JEE, Physics is an integral part of the syllabus. Both in IIT JEE Main and IIT JEE Advance Exam – Physics is one of the important subject. The other two are Maths and Chemistry.
If engineering is the key to an innovative technological evolution, then we all know Physics lies at the base of it. Knowledge of physics is also included as part of IIT courses because it helps to understand the quantitative reasoning and problem solving skills of a student.
IIT JEE Advance Physics Syllabus
In IIT JEE exam, a strong portion of Physics syllabus is common for both IIT JEE Mains exam and IIT JEE Advanced. Please find the IIT JEE Mains Physics Syllabus here.
The following are extra topics added to the IIT JEE Advance Paper syllabus (since 2015):
Thermal Physics: Newton’s law of cooling; Blackbody radiation; absorptive and emissive powers; Kirchoff’s law; Wein’s displacement law; Stefan’s law.
Electromagnetic Waves: Electromagnetic waves and their characteristics. Transverse nature of electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic spectrum radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, X-rays, gamma rays). Application of e.m.waves
Electronic Devices: Semiconductors; semiconductor diode: I-V characteristics in forward and reverse bias; diodes as a rectifier; I-V characteristics of LED, photodiode, solar cell and diode; Zener diode as a voltage regulator. Junction transistor, transistor action, characteristics of a transistor; transistor as an amplifier (common emitter configuration) and Oscillator. Logic gates (OR, AND, NOT, NAND and NOR). Transistor as a switch.
Communication Systems: Propagation of electromagnetic waves in the atmosphere; Sky and space wave propagation, Need for modulation Amplitude and Frequency Modulation, Bandwidth of signals, Bandwidth of transmission medium, basic elements of a Communication System (Block Diagram only).
