JEE or Joint Entrance Examination is an All-India Entrance Examination conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) for getting Admission into various reputed Engineering Courses across India.
JEE is a two-tier Entrance Examination consisting of JEE Main and JEE Advanced. In this Section we will focus on JEE Advanced.
JEE-Advanced is an Entrance Examination conducted to get Admission into Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian School of Mines (ISM) (Dhanbad). The candidates who clear JEE-Advanced Examination have the opportunity to join either of the above Institutes. The candidates need to apply for both JEE Main as well as JEE Advanced to get into IITs and ISM. In fact, with other eligibility conditions fulfilled, only top 2 lakh candidates from JEE Main are selected for JEE Advanced. Candidates will get admission into IITs only based on Category-wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE-Advanced, on the condition that these candidates are among the Top 20 Percentile of their respective Boards/ Qualifying Examinations. So, now Board results are as important as JEE to get into IITs!
There are some more restrictions in the selection process – that a candidate can appear for JEE (Advanced) only twice and that too in two successive years beginning from the year of appearing 10+2 (QE) for the first time. For example, candidates who took IIT JEE in 2016 or earlier are not qualified to appear for JEE (Advanced) in 2018.
