A covalent bond consists of the mutual sharing of one or more pair of electrons between two atoms.
Since carbon has four valance electrons, it's hard to gain or lose electrons to create ionic bonds. So, it's easy for carbon to form covalent bonds by sharing electrons. As a result of which we get organic compounds, which are generally chemical compounds containing carbon-hydrogen bonds.
