The main motto of dividing Bengal was to implement a divide and rule policy of the British government. Dividing Hindu Muslim based on religion was initiated by Lord Curzon because Hindu Muslims could not come together against the British emperor.
In the first decade of the 20th century, Indians were full of patriotism, and the British government pretend that they can't rule in the large area of Bengal together. They divided the Bengal in two-part East Bengal and West Bengal while the reality was to curve the patriotism of Indian and destroy their unity in 1905.
