To prepare IELTS at home, you need to be cosistent in your efforts. Reading newspapers(in English), listening to English news and debates will really help you alot in improving your band score. Also, practise regularly at home. But taking a professional help will really help you a lot.

For speaking however you may need to interact and practice with someone conversant in English and aware of the IELTS format.
