Yes, Palak!

Definitely, you can prepare for IELTS by yourself at home.

All you need is a three-step methodology:

1. Evaluate yourself

2. Study and Practice consistently

3. Analyze your improvements

But, approaching a trainer will certainly help you to achieve better and faster results. Depending on your current hold on the language, a trainer can help you to mark the areas where you might need to work on!

If you need any assistance, please let me know!

IELTS really need proper attention and assessment. Preparing at home may not help you, as, this practice may lack assessment.

Instead I would suggest, go for online classes so that you may avail the benefits of correction by an examiner as it may further help you to overcome the mistakes that you are making .All the best

Tutor

There is actually a lot of material available online in form of youtube videos, podcasts, pdf, model papers and many other things but it is all very unorganized. You can manage to study from all these then you it will be enough for your preparation.

At home you can practice by listening to conversations, reading comprehensions and trying analytical problems. but if you ask me, a good mentor will go a big way to helping you with the process.

Hi Aditya, MIT doesn't accept IELTS score for the undergraduate admissions, but for graduate and doctorate courses IELTS is considered. IELTS band 7.5 would be considered a good score. Thanks.
