I don't think you should worry about this at such tender age. It's not his impatience but rather yours that you want to see him in a role beyond his age. As you said that he's good at grabbing things; that is enough as it helps him venture into diverse areas rather than being stuck to a particular one. It is the age to explore; let him jump from one topic or task to another. He may not master a single task but will develop a general sense for many. So my suggestion to you will be to diversify his experience as much as possible. He will master those task when the right time comes.
