CAT Tips for the D Day

The prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) conducts CAT every year which is taken by more than 1.7 lakh students every year. It is one of the most popular entrance tests in the country. When so many students are writing for such limited seats, there is bound to be fierce competition from the brightest in the country. CAT causes a lot of stress among aspirants and many candidates take the test multiple times till they obtain the MBA seat from the college of their choice. Here are few tips to ensure the main test day is a smooth ride:

CAT Test Day Tips

  • Glance Over the Help Provided Online: The CAT management provides a lot of resources online in terms of FAQs, PDFs, videos and guidelines which clearly indicate the whole test process and its requirements. Brush through the same on the previous day to make sure you are carrying everything needed. Also go through the Online Mock Exam Tutorial opened at CAT website. This will also give you an idea of how the test center process will be before and after the exam.
  • Sleep Well on the Previous Night: No matter how under prepared you feel you are, it is not wise to compromise on the sleep. More so on the previous night of the main test day. Get sufficient sleep, this will help in being energetic and focused during the entire test duration.
  • Keep Documents Handy: You will need a photo ID and the admit card. Make sure you download the admit card in advance from the official website.
  • Carry Only What is Needed: Electronic items like Mobiles, Calculators are not allowed in the test premises. Check with the test center if any lockers are provided to keep the belongings. Else, carrying these items can be problematic. Avoid carrying unnecessary items.
  • Reach the Center Two-hour Before Time: The reporting time at the test center is 90 minutes prior. Just make sure that you reach well in advance.
  • Keep a Note of the Time: As the test advances, keep a track of how much time is left. Plan your test accordingly. Do not waste too much time on one question. Answer carefully to avoid silly mistakes which can be costly. Also note, that you don’t end up wasting too much time in one section.
  • Ask for Assistance: If there is any issue with the computer terminal or you have some query, do not hesitate to call for assistance. The timer will be set to regain this lost time.
  • Do Not Panic: No matter the kind of questions you face, it is very important for candidates to remain calm under pressure and given time. Panicking can cause more mistakes. Instead answer what you are sure of confidently and move on.
