Joining coaching is not mandatory and one can study by one self. The question one should ask is what does it take to study on your own AND ace the exams? Self study can be done by people who are absolutely sure of what they want, people who are willing to go that extra mile in doing much research to find best practices, sample papers etc. about the exam in question. Most of us usually require a little push in the right direction and will not strive unless prodded to do so. Hence, the option of coaching. If you are someone with tremendous grit, who could go to any lengths to ace the exams by yourself; someone determined that THIS is what I want... then you dont need to join coaching. Hope this helps!
