Hath yoga is quite simple while ashtanga yoga is complex and generally requires a mentor.

When you talk ashtanga and hatha yog bith are complementary to each other because final goal hath yog leads raj yog( ashtanga yog) so both are difficult and we can't compare them in terms of difficulty level.
