Refer to Wren & Martin, your basic grammer book.You work on it seriously,I dont think you require anything else for English.Later you can read other novels,autobiographies ofcourse newspapers,built your vocabulary,communicate with people in English,grab allthe opportunities to improve your English etc etc.

You can download "The black book of speaking English" audiobook. It is very helpful. It is available on audible as well. The main advantage of audiobooks is that you can listen to them while walking or commuting or doing any other mundane task and thus make most out of your time that would otherwise never be utilised to learn new skills.

My personal experience says that all books r good . But the most beautiful n helpful is that which is for u to understand.
For beginners u can start with class 4_5 books and for little bit more, start with news paper n magazines, read it laudly n slowly that will help you tu understand what you are reading.
