I can say this as a remote employee and also a freelancer that works with a team. A weekly unmissed huddle for upto an hour which is not on a Monday, where KPIs are personally discussed, last week's wins and problems are asked to share, solutions or suggestions are given , help is offered and a lot of appreciation and encouragement in every session is given, is the key to ensure effective communication within a team. If this doesn't exist, it's bound to mess up. My employer does this and I've enjoyed a whole lot of 3 years working for him.
