'Personality' or the Development of Personality are the most commonly used terms. The term 'Personality' emphasizes the physical attributes like height, weight, complexion, mannerisms, styles, overall appearance etc. All this suggests that personality is a complex phenomenon which is the product of multiplicity of forces such as social, economic, environmental, academics etc.
The Development of Personality is an unending process which consists of a large number of qualities and attributes. For example:- physical appearances, behaviour with others, knowledge related to various socio-economic, political aspects and events, leadership qualities, interest and participation in sports and analytical mind.
'Heredity' and 'Environment', these are the factors that mould the personality of an individual. Both the factors play an important role in the development of personality. An individual may inherit certain traits like intelligence, emotions etc from his/her parents while certain other aspects like attitudes, preferences and prejudices etc are the outcome of environment. Therefore, it means personality is a function of heredity and environmental factors.
Once a person becomes aware of the favourable and the unfavourable effects of all these institutions, he/she will be equipped with what to accept and what to avoid for developing a healthy personality. Development of personality is the final objective of any educational institutions. Personality is the product of variety of factors.
