If you are enthusiastic about teaching, go ahead. Apart from benefiting the students, teaching also strenthens your knowledge. There is always something additional to learn each time you teach a subject. That being said, however, it is also important to manage your time wisely so that you do not adversely impact your existing study schedule.

The best and only way to improve speaking skills in a short period is to actually do it. Do not hesitate to speak in English, come what may. Give about 20 minutes everyday for vocabulary building and get set to speak. If you do not have anyone to speak around you, you can try doing the below: 

Call up customer service numbers of every appliance you own in your home (TV, Refrigerator, Washing Machine etc.). Make sure you select english as the language and get into a conversation with the customer service reps. over there. You can ask about warranty information, how to operate something or anything you can think of - just an example - you can find anyone else to speak to, but the idea is to get into the habit of speaking. The more you practise, the more you will improve.

Regardless of whether the parents are working or not, tutions, though not a necessity, certainly help the student in many ways apart from just school.

1. Content is revised and hence re-enforced strongly.

2. Fundamentals are cleared, the student gets an opportunity to talk about the content/subject in 2 different environments.

3. The student learns that there could be multiple ways of explaining the same concepts and learns to appreciate differing viewpoints (of different teachers of the same subject)

4. Gets to know fellow students from different school attendig the tution class and hence more exposure.

Hence, even if the parents are at home and availbale and even if the student is self-disciplined, joining a good tution class is definitely worth the investment thinking long-term development.
