The purpose of teaching Political Science to students in higher standards of schooling is to develop their knowledge and understanding about one of the most powerful forces operating on people, communities and corporations today- the government and politics around the world. This is highly essential for students. It helps them to become aware of the political systems that they live in and are affected by. It is also crucial in many careers today; business executives, for example, need to have some understanding of the likely trajectory of policy and politics in different parts of the world to make wise investment decisions.
As a subject, some students may find Political Science interesting enough to make a career in government services, whereas others might want to become politicians. Besides, it also helps students to know the basics about the administration and governance of their nation. They even learn about the law and order that are enforced to run it.
The National Council of Education, Research and Training (NCERT) has been accredited the role of developing as well as distributing textbooks to the students at the primary and secondary level. These books are highly beneficial for the CBSE students as they cover the whole CBSE syllabus for class 1 to 12 and focus on fundamentals to help students with basic concepts. NCERT books are all-inclusive and accomplished in their sense, and CBSE will hardly ask anything beyond these books. NCERT books for Political Science for Class 12th are named as Contemporary World Politics (Part 1) and Contemporary World Politics (Part 2). They are part of the NCERT’s effort to help students understand basic concepts of politics. Other books for students of Political Science in Classes XI and XII deal with various facets of politics — the Indian Constitution, Politics in India, and Political Theory. Contemporary World Politics enlarges the scope of politics to the world stage.
The Contemporary World Politics Class 12 book runs through nine chapters, covering world politics which includes politics within other countries, understood in comparative perspective. For instance, the chapter on events in the “second world” of the communist countries after the Cold War deals with internal developments in this region. The South Asia chapter presents the state of democracy amongst India’s neighbours. This is the field of comparative politics. Each chapter begins with an overview to quickly give you an idea of what to expect and has maps, tables, graphics, boxes, cartoons, and other illustrations to enliven your reading and to get you to reflect on world politics by provoking, challenging, or amusing you. The chapters discussed in detail in NCERT Class 12 Contemporary World Politics are mentioned below-
