Using Modes creatively is a bit complex and is related to the chord progression, harmony, music theory etc.. The best way is to jam along with backing tracks and explore using various chord progressions and modes.. In the example that you have mentioned , all the modes are basically the same A minor scale notes that are played starting from each of the scale notes. So if you are jamming against an A minor track you can use any of the 7 modes and all of them will sound great as they are all the same A minor scale notes. Basically the 7 modal shapes of A minor helps you solo across the fretboard. But to improvise and create great solos you need to effectively use the consonant and dissonant notes, interval ideas, various soloing techniques etc.. For example if your chord progression is Am-Dm-G-Em you can try the following - For each of these chords try hitting any of the chordal notes. For example with the Dm chord, the D, F and A notes will sound great - Try using the dissonant notes to create tension in your solo and resolve it by hitting a consonant note - If you know the 3 notes per string shapes of the 7 modes, you can play some cool fast runs - Try using arpeggio ideas against each of the chords - You can also use the A Harmonic minor and the 5 pentatonic shapes of A minor against these chords to create a different feel to your solos Cheers.. read less

Don't keep your guitar open. You need some silica gel or a fast fret for preventing rust in strings. And always put the front way (fret board) towards the wall while you're not playing.
