 There are four different ways we can convert a number to a text in excel,

1) Put an Apostrophe(') to change Number to Text Format

Steps :

1. Go to the cell that contains the number.
2. Open it in Edit mode of the cell – (Pressing F2 Key or Double click)
3. Put an Apostrophe(‘) before the number.

 2) Changing the Formatting of Cell option to “Text”

Steps :

1. Select the Cell or range of cells that contains the Number
2. Go to Number Formatting – ( Pressing Ctrl+1)
3. Select “Text” which is 3^rd from bottom in the opened dialog box and press ente.

3) Using Excel “Text” Function

Steps:

1. If the number is in A1 Cell then go to B1 Cell in Excel
2. Put the formula =Text(A1,”0”) in B1 Cell and press Enter.
3. B1 Cell convers and show the Number(Contained in A1 Cell) in Text Form.
4. The TEXT function converts a numeric value to formatted text, thus the result cannot be calculated.

4) Convert numbers to text in Excel with Text to Columns wizard:

Steps: 

1. At first Select the column that contains the numbers.
2. Go to the “Data Tab”
3. Select “Text to Columns” icon from that Menu
4. Go through that wizard and ensure that the Radio Button “ Text” must be selected.
5. Click on Finish.

Prerviously Grouping of Columns and rows were not available in Google Sheets, but from 13th April-2018 this drawback has been removed. So, now you can easily make groupng of rows or columns in Google Sheets as we are doing in Excel. That means frustration period is over.  

Now how to group rows and columns in Google Sheets ? Steps are very simple like following :-

1) At first select the entire rows or colums which we want to group.

2)Then right click  and select the option "Group Row Numbers 4-15" - Say Grouping of Rows 4 to 15 or "Group Column B-E(Say)" - Say for Grouping of columns B to E. 

3) Now Click on the Minus Sign (-) to collapse the grouped rows and columns with Plus Sign(+) appearing.

4) Again click on Plus Sign (+) to expand the grouped rows or colums.

Data validation is an important function available in Excel. It basically prevents any wrong input entry from the end of data entry operator or user. Most frequently used restrictions  are as follows :

1) Enter the input data only through selection from a predetermined drop down list. This ensures zero spelling mistakes while entering.

2) Restrics data entry within a specified range of values (Say not below 10 or not more than 20). So, the said input data field rejects any input value entry which is not falling within that predefind data range.

3) Ensures Input data entry within specified dates or within a specified time period. So, the input data field acceps only the date entered which is falling in between the specified dates previously determined by the user (say within 01/01/18 to 30/09/18)

4) It ensures text data entry within a specified number of characters (Say upto 25 characters or letters).

Error message or warning messages can be displayed for any wrong input entry in data validated fields. It immensely helps the  management to minimise error at the input data entry level while the volume of entry is huge and requires large number of persons to accomplish the job.

I have tried to explain the basic features of Data Validation and its usage, however handling some practical problems will bring more clarity about the concept. 

How much are the charges per hour to teach spoken English to a group of 25 students between the age of 16 and 19 . They are from the vernacular medium.

The question you put is about the rate per Hour for teaching Spoken English of a batch of 25 student. 

I presume that the student are coming from a lowercass or a lower middle class family as they are taking education in vernacuar medium ( unable to afford Convent Schools). 

In that case as per my suggestion you can fix a reasonable rate of Rs 50/hr per student. In that case even if some student has a 1 hour class perday for 5 days a week he needs to pay as low as = Rs (1x5x4x50) = Rs 1000 only. 

The teacher is earning @ 50x25x1x5x4 = Rs 25000. Which is reasonably good. 

The Rate per hour may vary from 50 to 100 depending on the size of the batch or the affordability of the student. This means if the batch size is small the rate per hour can be increased to 60 or 70 and so on. 

If your student are coming from affluent society or upper middle class family then obviously the rate will be much higher. Hope you will get a reasonable guideline from my answer.  

Dear Madam,

Your problem is very common and therefore never feel any complex for that reason. Just try to adopt the following habits which I usually advise to my students: -

1) Read English News Papers daily especially the Editorial Column.

2) Practice a mock conversation with yourself (self-talking) at least for 40-45 minutes in English in front of a mirror or inside in your room on any topic or on any assumed situation..

3)Regularly watch English VDOs from internet for improving your listening skill & pronunciation. 

4) If possible findout a friend or a relative or any of your near ones as your spoken english partner. Speak with him in english at least for 45 minutes every day.  

4) Last but not the least find out a suitable Tutor who can rectify your mistakes or modify your conversation using appropriate words or expression while speaking.
