What is the difference between IELTS & TOFEL exam? Which is better to take?

IELTS and TOEFL both are the English proficiency test which measure the Reading, Speaking, Writing and Listening skills of non-native English speakers.

IELTS is more preferable than TOEFL, it is accepted across the world whether it’s English countries or European countries for study, occupational and immigration purpose. For study you need to take IELTS academic and for other purpose like work or immigration you need to take IELTS general but on other hand TOEFL is only acceptable for Study to the countries abroad.

What is IELTS?

As we know very well IELTS is an English language test for study, work and immigration to countries abroad. Over 10,000 institutions across the 140 countries worldwide accept the IELTS score.

It has two modules:

• IELTS Academic
• IELTS General

IELTS Life skills is also separately offered by IELTS partners. Academic is used for study purpose to countries abroad and General one is used for immigration and occupational purpose.

IELTS test Format:

It is a paper based test and now the computer deliever test is also avialable. IELTS scores are calculated on scale of 0–9 band and these scores are valid for two years.

What is TOEFL?

TOEFL stands for the Test of English as Foreign Language, it assesses your ability to communicate in English for academic specially. 8,500 institutions across 130 countries accept TOEFL score including UK, USA and Australia. It is administrated by US based organization the Education Testing Service.

It is computer based, internet based and paper based too. Copmuter based test’s scores are calculated on a scale of 0–300, internet based test’s scores are calculated on a scale of 0–120 and paper based test’s scores are calculated on a scale of 0–667.

TOEFL iBT test format:

For TOEFL CBT and PBT, the format is little different and its questions are entirely multiple choice. Its scores are valid for 2 year.
