It depends on your learning style. If you are a concrete learner go for IELTS and if your learning style is more abstract TOEFL will be good for you. IELTS is conducted by British Council, Cambridge English Language Assessment whereas TOEFL is conducted by ETS (Educational Testing Service) a private non-profit U.S. organization. There is also difference in test taking method. In IELTS you need to speak face to face with an examiner whereas in TOEFL you need to speak in a microphone. For TOEFL CBT and PBT, the format is little different and its questions are entirely multiple choice. Its scores are valid for 2 year.

IELTS and TOEFL both are the English proficiency test which measure the Reading, Speaking, Writing and Listening skills of non-native English speakers.

IELTS is more preferable than TOEFL, it is accepted across the world whether it’s English countries or European countries for study, occupational and immigration purpose. For study you need to take IELTS academic and for other purpose like work or immigration you need to take IELTS general but on other hand TOEFL is only acceptable for Study to the countries abroad.
