IELTS is a standardized test for non-native English speakers which stands International English Language Testing System and designed to measure the Writing, Speaking, Listening and Reading skills of test takers, it is administrated by IDP and British Council: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English.
Basically, it has two modules:
For Canadian student visa, you need to take IELTS academic. Academic one is used for the study purpose and if you are willing to study in Canada, you should opt for IELTS Academic and it is mandatory to have IELTS score either for study or immigration. For immigration, you should appear for IELTS General.
