For a begineer the best and safe resource is to join classes which focus on practicing with alignment and awareness. For a practitioner one can explore BKS Iyengarji's videos + books as they really go into the precision and detailing which makes all the difference to the practice

Yes you can! If you are a beginner then do it at your own risk. It's like learning to drive on your own. This body too is a vehicle and basic learning to create the postures through this body is indispensible. But one can know the difference only when one joins classes which focus on alignment along with nuances of each posture. Quality over quantity. Once you learn the basics and you have developed the intelligence of alignment then you can drive on motorway i.e. explore the practice on your own.
