Entrance exams and their scores are becoming mandatory especially for higher education. On completing school, students have to appear and crack the entrance exams in order to pursue advanced courses. Some are first step to bright career aboard, some for engineering or doctorate courses and so on. However, at the very initial stage the confusion is which entrance exam to opt for in order to proceed or master a specific stream of study. To sort the matter, here is listing ten entrance exams that Indian students are opting for and how each of the exam will help you to proceed further on the career map.

IELTS During admission in colleges abroad, an English proficiency certificate is mandatory. Clearing the IELTS exam certifies ones English language proficiency by evaluating four skills - Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. The exam is conducted in different accents like Australian, British and it depends on your geographical location, which kind of IELTS exam you opt for. TOEFL When the plan is to start a career overseas, TOEFL is a good step towards it. TOEFL examines ones English proficiency in communication. In 130 countries, more than 1300 institutes consider the TOEFL score during admission process. Also, easy ways of applying and accessing in the official website of Educational Testing Service(ETS), makes TOEFL popular among students. GMAT Though the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is considered mandatory for MBA aspirants, but now its score is also important for admission in graduate schools. The test establishes ones proficiency in analytical writing, quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning, and integrated reasoning. Institutes accepting GMAT score, at times consider GRE score as well. GRE The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) by Educational Testing Service beholds importance during admission in some colleges or educational institutions. You are marked on a scale of 130-170points and the score may qualify you for admission in some good course or job opening. SAT The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is an open standard test that unveils ones opportunities in the U.S. Owned and managed by the College Board, this four hour test (approximately) determines a student’s eligibility for courses in U.S. From 400, students can score up to 1600 in SAT exam. Freshers to professionals - all can apply and appear in the SAT exam. CLAT The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the first step for admission in 17 National Law Universities of India. One is eligible to sit for the CLAT test right after plus two exams, though some take it up much later. In the two hour test, CLAT assesses Elementary Mathematics or Numerical Ability, English with Comprehension, General knowledge and Current affairs , Legal Aptitude and Logical reasoning. Nowadays even private law colleges accept the CLAT score. However the use of the score limits within India. CAT Though associated with MBA aspirants, CAT is now taken up by young Indians to assess their overall proficiency on Quantitative Ability (QA), Verbal Ability (VA) and Reading Comprehension (RC), Data Interpretation (DI) and Logical Reasoning (LR). IIMs conduct the CAT exam and at end, comes up with two kinds of score for each test taker - a raw score and a scaled score. In 2015, the total number of CAT test takers was +2lacs in number. NITAT Conducted in almost 200 cities, NITAT or National IT Aptitude Test is one of the popular open standard test. Usually conducted in the beginning of every year, this one declares results within a week and handovers certificates within a month of the test. The test includes 100-minutes objective type questionnaire that can be taken by BA, BCom, BSc, MCA and Engineering students.
