Overview

I'm pursuing MSc chemistry from Ramjas college (DU). I scored reasonably good grades in my bsc too. I have given tuition to class 11&12 students earlier also . My score in 12 was 91.2%(pcbm). I'm willing to give extra efforts to make the concept simple and more clear to my students.

A most common form of fullerene is Buckminsterfullerene (C60), and it is also known as buckyball as it resembles the football structure and consists of 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons.

The main difference between different allotropic forms lies in the spatial arrangement of atoms, and thus their properties also differ. In diamond, c is arranged in tetragonal structure by covalent bonds whereas, in Graphite, c is set in the form of hexagons in such a way that one carbon is bonded to three carbon atoms by a covalent bond and forms a planar structure. The fourth bond is with the carbon of different layer or plane ( weak Vanderwall bonding).
Fullerene and diamond are insulators while Graphite is a conductor of electricity. Mp of diamond and Graphite are comparatively high than that of fullerene. Diamond is hard while Graphite is soft and slippery, and fullerene has properties ranging between them. Diamond is used in jewellery or as a cutter, and Graphite is used in pencil or as a lubricant.
Fullerene has its main uses in nanotechnology and is used to deliver medicine to different body parts.
