1.As a young girl teaching always fascinated me and I would recite my everyday learning to my mother impersonating my teachers at school. But how I actually started teaching was a summer holiday project for social studies where I had to show any underprivileged/needy people in my area, I showed my own grandmother and my watchman's kids, helping them with their homework.
2. During school years also I used to teach my brother, mostly during his examinations. My strong subjects are physics and mathematics for higher classes. Mathematics, science for junior ranks. Occasionally I can help with English, mental mathematics also.
3. As a teacher or a fellow student I always believed that if you put in just the right amount of will and practice no subject seems to be difficult. From my own personal experience I always dreaded maths and would score poorly until one day I decided to work on it and thanks to my the then teacher and my will I came out with flying colors from score in 60's (till class 8th) to scoring 97 (class Xth) and 90(class XII) TO BECOMING AN ENGINEER.
4. I have a full-time experience of teaching for two years, to class XII students. I took physics and mathematics and occasionally English (that is when I developed a rapport my students and realized they need a bit of guidance in the subject). I use to take weekend classes as I was attending engineering college and sometimes weekdays .classes would be scheduled as to meet the students period as well.
5. As a teacher, my first duty or instinct is to understand my student his capabilities, potential and area of interest. I don't intend to be a subject teacher only but a teacher who could inspire her students, bring about a good change in them, help them in self-realisation.And this is imperative as the age group I teach is mostly teenager and adolescent. Having been one in the past, I can relate to their mindset.
4. When I show, I can explain a concept over several times, and also change or adapt my style of teaching as per the students grasping ability. I believe in intensive practice when one appears for boards. I take surprise tests (they are not difficult, they are more like brush up, to recall whatever is done ). At the end of every chapter a mock trial is planned, in between the episodes I like to discuss questions outside NCERT textbooks, maybe play a game, mental exercises and a short 10 min break between every lecture. Timely homework is given, mock test, practise questions, reading, subject videos, interactive session are emphasised upon.
5. As a teacher I would never impose myself on the students, my aim is not just to teach them what is in books, there can always be an error in printing but to identify those errors. And I believe even a student can be a teacher and I can learn a lot from my students. Not just the subject but maybe what they like, their interests. A healthy communication b/w a student and its teacher is essential.
6. I can teach on a blackboard /copy depending upon the student intake. But in the time of technology with smartphones and emails, reaching me will not be a problem. Students can always discuss questions, any random thought, parents can always ask for feedback, give feedback via phone or email. They will still get a reply.
7. I am not a wizard or a subject genius ,I just happen to know the concepts better and a little earlier in time than my students so only desire to share and impart what I have acquired as knowledge during school, engineering college or working as an R&D engineer with Mahindra and Mahindra.
8. For me, the whole process of teaching is engaging, liberating and of ultimate responsibility. It asks one to be sincere and diligent for in our hands lies the future of so many little hands.
