Odissi: Odissi originated in the state of Odisha in eastern India. It draws its roots from the ancient temple dances of Odisha. Kathak: Kathak originated in North India and has influences from the traditional court dances of the Mughal era.

Odissi dance belongs to state of Orissa & Kathak belongs to northern India.... both of them has its regional influences...which you see through there costuming or attire. Odissi dance is inspired by the sculptures of the great temples chouka & tribhangi are the basic stance wherein in Kathak has influence of mughal Era & temples the basic stance for Kathak is samapada( standing posture) more imphasis on footwork & spins( chakkar)
