Hi Fathima, Communication skills is a multi-faceted area-it can be language communication, interpersonal communication, business communication etc. Whatever the communication area you want improve in, communication is a process of getting at a common understanding between people. It always involves two people-a listener and a speaker. So the first step in improving communication skills is developing listening skills. Listen to other people speaking and try to understand what they are saying. You improve your communication through listening most. Observe how they are speaking-the language they are using, the grammar, the pronunciation, vocabulary etc. Then you see how you can improve your speaking skills.Taking a structured communication skills program from an expert is always the first choice one must prefer. To improve one's communication in any foreign language, the technique recommended: Listen, Speak, Rear & Write (LSRW), however, mostly we go the other way around; hence our writing ability over powers the speaking. Watch out for First Language Influence (FLI), while you converse in foreign language. Eg: Think in English and you will observe the grammatical errors reduce. Habits to inculcate: Listen (knowledge acquisition), Speak (breakthrough monotony, strike conversation with different folks from all walks of life), Video & Audio record and self evaluate. Hope this helps! Thanks for reading. read less

Communication is basis of our survival on this earth. Our communication with universe our own self and others determines our success and happiness in life. Being conscious and aware while communicating is of utmost importance. Start communicating with yourself more positively and accept yourself. And slowly shift the same energy to others. Listening is of greatest importance in communication. Almost 50% of our communication comprises of listening but we hardly listen we only hear voices and while we are hearing we think and filter all what is said as per our convenience and beliefs. Body language gestures play next important part in communication and our thoughts and state of mind determines our body language. Then comes the words and emotions into picture. So communication is not easy as it seems and not effective and complete as we assume it to be in our life. I can't put everything into this small section .But tried to give gist of it in nutshell. read less

Hi Fathima, Like everything else in life, there are no short cuts for improving one's communication skills. One has to be a reasonably voracious reader to enhance the vocabulary and then keep on practising incessantly your verbal /written communication skills.Daily reading of English newspaper is of great help in this regard.Writing letters to the Editor and personal diary , one can surely sharpen the written communication skills.Any opportunity of public speaking, formal or informal, should be grabbed with both hands, without any hesitation or apprehension. And regular guidance and moral support of an experienced person can be very beneficial in this learning process. In my experience, one can be reasonably proficient in communication skills within 6/8 months if sincere efforts are made on the above lines. BEST OF LUCK IN YOUR ENDEAVOUR!!! read less

How to use the below pattern in english? Could+have+been In the above pattern some times we use "been" & many times we don't use. Example: 1. It could have been better, if you were attended the party. 2. I could have gone to the party. Thanks
I think your example should read "It would have been better, if you attended the party" we use could have when there is another option, eg He could have washed the dishes, but he chose to watch tv
