Catenation is the property of atoms of an element to link together and in case of nitrogen the size of it being small and due to electron repulsion it can exist stably in a diatomic form. Further link with other nitrogen atoms is not possible because of weak bond energy.

Nitrogen posses less catenation property than Phosphorus and Carbon consist. The reason for this lies in the bond dissociation enthalpy of Nitrogen molecule.

Basically Nitrogen has smaller orbit size and weak N-N bond so it very less tends to catenation, it can't be consider in catenation property.

Atoms of the same element link to form chain structures and this ability is known as catenation. Nitrogen being small in size have strong electron repulsive force, therefore it cannot form long chains as we see in case of carbon or silicon. Nevertheless Nitrogen can exist in diatomic state.

The property is predominant among carbon atoms, significant among sulfur and silicon atoms, and...

Nitrogen doesnot have the orbitals. Since its size is small so interelectronic repulsion occurs and hence n-n bonds become weak. Hence it does not have catenation property. Hope you understand.

Atoms of an element link together to form chain structures and this property is known as Catenation. Nitrogen unlike carbon and silicon cannot stably exist in more than diatomic form, this is due to the small size of nitrogen and strong electron repulsion force. I hope this answers your query.

Nitrogen can catenate. It forms a chain of two atoms in hydrazine and three atoms in hydrazoic acid.phosphorus has greater catenation tendency than nitrogen because N-N bond energy(163.8 kJ·mol?1) is less than that of P-P bond energy(2o1.6kJ·mol?1). Greater the bond energy greater the tendency to cat...

Catenation is much more common in phosphorous compounds than in nitrogen compounds. This is because of the relative weakness of the N-N single bond as compared to the P-P single bond. Since nitrogen atom is smaller, there is greater repulsion of electron density of two nitrogen atoms, thereby weakening...

Calculate the mass of 0.5 mole of N2 gas (mass from mole of molecule).
Molar mass of N2 is 28(since atomic weight of nitrogen is 14and forN2=14*2). So mass of 1 mole of N2 is 28g.Therefore mass of 0.5 mole is 28/2 =14g
