The Noun:  

I. Countable nouns:

i. Proper noun: These are the specific names for person, place or things. Eg: Delhi, India, Ravi, Sita, etc.

ii. Common noun: These noun show whole category of proper noun. Eg: city, country, boy, girl, etc.

iii. Collective noun: A noun word showing collection/group of person, animals, birds etc. Eg: class (group of students), army (group of soldiers), herd (group of animals).                                                               

II. Uncountable nouns:

i. Material noun: These noun refer the names of metals and materials like gold, silver, wheat, rice, water, etc.

ii. Abstract noun: These noun are the names of feelings and thought we cannot see and touch them. Eg: Honesty, bravery, ability, childhood.

iii. Number Noun: There are two numbers of noun:

a. Singular number: Eg: Book, city, leaf, etc.

b. Plural number: Eg: Books, cities, leaves, etc.                                                                                

iv. Noun: Gender:

a. Masculine gender: Man, king, horse, etc.

b. Feminine gender: Woman, queen, made, etc.

c. Common gender: Student, teacher, doctor, etc

d. Neuter gender: Nonliving things. Eg: Table, chair etc.                                                              

III. Noun: Case:

i. Nominative case: When a noun is used as a subject in the sentence. Eg: Ravi sent a gift to mohan. Here Ravi is subject (nominative case).

ii. Objective case: When a noun is used as a direct object. In the above sentence gift is direct object (objective case).

iii.Dative case: When a noun is used as an indirect object. Eg: Mohan in the above sentence is dative case.

iv. Possessive case: When a noun word shows possession with help of an apostrophe. Eg: Ravi's book, Morgan's house, girls' hostel.
