Hi Aadesh, 2D 2D animation is a traditional animation process that has been in existence for hundreds of years. Modern 2D animated videos can be created either by hand or via computer and requires one image to be followed by another in a slightly different position, followed by yet another image in another position and so on in order to create movement. They produce a flat image that has movement and is represented in the height and width dimensions, but not depth. Before the use of computer technology became the primary vehicle for image creation and manipulation, these images were created by hand. Artists drew pencil sketches of every frame which were then transferred in full color onto cels. Each cel was painstakingly drawn and painted and then photographed against a background image in order to create the film’s frames. The thousands of photographs are compiled and edited to run at the traditional 24 frames per second required of motion pictures. Today, most 2D animated movies are created using computer animation software, though to varying degrees. Even if the animated images are hand drawn, they are often colorized and transferred to the cels using computers. Others are created entirely on computers. 3D 3D animation differs significantly from 2D, both in terms of the process used to create it but the end result as well. 3D animation produces a more realistic character that is represented in all three dimensions (height, width and depth). All 3D animation with the exception of stop motion animation is created using computer software applications. Main Benefit of 3D Animation over 2D Animation beyond the obvious ability to create a more lifelike character with realistic textures, is that 3D objects, once created, can be treated much like a physical object or an actor. The best way to understand the difference is to feel the space in a visual. If you can feel the space between two objects even in a painting then that can be considered as having the 3rd dimension. When our eyes don't feel the space then it has only 2 Dimensions. I would say the same examples which Hemant has refered. Now you can take a look at them and see if you can feel the space in Tom&Jerry or Toy Story. Hope this helps. Thank you. read less

The biggest difference between 2D and 3D is ...2d is around $5000 per second and 3D is $45000 per sec , so now u know 2d is cheaper the 3D , still producer opt for 3D cuz that's wat sells, even now the shows which look like 2D are done in softwares like maya.

2D animation is a type of animation created in a two dimensional context instead of a three dimensional context. Many modern animation studios (such as DreamWorks and Pixar) use 3D animation tools to create the characters and environments for their movies, sculpting them out of thousands of tiny digital polygons and animating them with computer code like puppets on strings. 2D animation doesn’t employ any fancy digital models or virtual spaces, opting for a more straightforward approach: simply drawing the frames of each scene and letting our brain fill in the rest. have you watched ever a famous show Motu Patlu ki Jodi (3d animation) and Micky mouse show ( 2d animation). The big dIfference is depth in animation. read less

The most obvious answer would be that 2D animations are "flat", while 3D animations can be rotated and flipped on screen to get an overall 3-dimensional view of the scene or character. Best example would be Disney's 2D animation movies like 'Cinderella' and 'Beauty and the Beast', or the 'Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender Series'. Whereas 3D movies would include examples from Pixar's movies, 'Toy Story' and 'Wall-E', or shows like 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' and 'Transformers Prime'. If you are talking about the difference between making 2D and 3D animations, however, that's an even longer answer! For one thing, in 2D animation, everything from shadow to light to the different views (i.e., front, back, profile, and diagonal) of a character has to be drawn into (or loaded into) the animation software by the creator. In 3D animation software, anything you create would already have a 3D view and your job (the creator's) would be mainly to make sure that the entire character or object looks as it is supposed to. Plus, there are settings that will allow you to set the lighting and shadow in the scene which the computer will automatically calculate at each frame. But be warned that doing this is not as easy as it sounds. Foor one, you can't just draw on designs like you would in 2D animation, but have to define textures (surface area designs) to "apply" to the models you've created. And then you'll have to adjust the light and the shadow so that it best brings out your surroundings and models. Keep i mind though, that this is merely the tip of the iceberg. Once you start working on 2D and 3D animation, there will be a whole lot more to learn, and plenty of differences (and similarities) between the two. read less

Hi Aadesh, Comparison between 2D Animation and 3D Animation Definition 2D Animation is an acronym for two dimensional. Basically it refers to the creation and /or modification of moving pictures/figures on computers in a two dimensional environment using 2D bitmap and 2D vector graphics. Images can be seen from one angle at a time. 3D Animation is an acronym for three dimensional. 3D technology of computer animation refers to creation of moving pictures using 3D digital environment. Appearance and Depth 2D Animation is a flat animation and comprises of only X axis and Y axis whereas 3D animation comprises of X axis, Y axis and Z axis. X, Y and Z refer to height, width and depth respectively. 2D animation works on onion tool kits whereas 3D animation ruses digital modeling and rendering. Realistic Appeal 2D animation consists of frames and carries no realistic feather in them whereas 3D animation comprises of movements and carries realistic appeal in them. 3D technology enables the use of lighting and textures that can be used to create better solid images and can be merged into live video components. Applicability Sectors where 2D animation is widely used are 2D animated movies, television advertisements, cartoons, films, video games, engineering demos, websites, e-learning and many more. Sectors where 3D animation is widely used are Architecture, Medical, and Aerospace, Engineering, biotechnology, gaming industry, movies and many more. Software used Adobe After Effects, Adobe Flash Professional, Motion, Toon Boom, and Anime Studio are some of commonly used software used to create 2D animation. Autodesk 3Ds Max, Autodesk Maya, Cinema 4D, Houdini, ZBrush, and Blender are some of commonly used software used to create 3D animation. Thanks Digiscape Gallery read less

Do we have to be good in drawing to learn animation
Drawing is base. The more strong base, more strong building. 2D animation require purely traditional drawing skill. You can use softwares for animation, but it has their own limitation. No software can give you 100% 2D animation.
