Between 3 to 8 years, though as you have rightly said, it is based on a lot of factors, like aptitude, practise, the involvement of the teacher, and such things. It is not very easy to learn an instrument like violin (I am a flutist and can comment on the violin with confidence on some of these aspects ) to learn just from the DVD's or internet or youtube. A direct instruction from an expert teacher and player would make your foundation strong and also make the learning much faster, provided you get a good teacher, and there is a good rapport between the teacher and the student. Of course it is a good idea if you are willing to do it. Also look for Data Science if you are interested in it, because it is a better option than project manager but choose this only if you are interested otherwise go for Project Manager.
