IdentityI am Dr H. Shankar, just completed my Post Doctoral research in Israel at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. I started teaching (Home tuition for 11th & 12th standard Physics) since 2005 during my PhD studies in Chennai and then joined as tutor in a private tution center, worker for few years. After completion of my PhD, I joined as Assistant Professor in SRM University, Kattangulathur, Chennai and taught Engineering Physics suject and Nanomaterials Characterization techniques. Later I joined as Post Doctoral Researcher at University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy. After completion of my Post Doctoral Research in Italy I joined as Assistant Professor in AMET University in the year 2014. From 2014 to 2020 I worked as Post Doctorla Reseacher in The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Israel where I got the chance to teach Bachelor and Master students. Hence, teaching has been always my passion and I have been teaching Physics and Science subjects to High School, Higher Secondary Students , Bacherlor and Master levels as well.
My one-line teaching philosophy is “Encourage to rise the questions and motivate to answer our questions”. It is essential to keep the class room in a democratic manner which will indirectly make the students to be more involved, interested and to rise more questions from them. I believe that, teaching is long process and as a teacher, it is our responsibility to ensure that the learning takes place in right direction on each and every phase of the lecture, this can be checked by rising questions to the students at every phase of the lecture and motivating them to answer without any hesitation.
My understanding of teaching physics
For me, teaching is an important component of an academic career. As a physicist I am motivated not only by the “pleasure of finding things out,” but also explaining them to others. I receive great intellectual pleasure from explaining physical concepts and seeing students understand them. I feel that it is essential to keep students involved in the subject and convey to them not just the information but the concepts and thought processes that make up physics.
