Hello Everyone
Hope you tried my last two tips and have found a significant difference in the way you sound. Let us get a little deeper into syllables this time.
Let us do a quick recap :
- Syllables are the smallest part of speech.
- Several syllables form a word.
- Saying each syllable greatly clarifies your speech.
Let us take an example.

Let us now break it up into syllables.
PHO - TO - GRA - PHY
The word breaks up into four syllables. These are four bits of sound that we can speak. Now let us take these separately and see what makes them up.
- PHO - consonant - consonant - vowel
- TO - consonant - vowel
- GRA - consonant - consonant - vowel
- PHY - consonant - consonant-vowel (Y is sometimes a vowel)
Every syllable has a vowel. The sounds of the syllables are the sound of the vowels. Once we understand and master the vowel sounds, we can further improve our pronunciation. The number of vowels in a syllable decides the pronunciation.
In the next lesson, we will look at how the different number of vowels create different sounds and impact pronunciation until then.
