English Language: Key To Professional Success: Syllables Part 2

Hi Everyone,

In the last lesson, we looked at Syllables. Today let us look at Syllable Stress. What is Syllable Stress? Out of the several syllables that make up a word one is spoken with a slight force to make it stand out—knowing which syllable to stress greatly enhances your pronunciation and removes mother tongue influence.

Let us take an example:

PHOTOGRAPHY
This word has four syllables.
PHO - TO - GRA - PHY
Now, in this case, the second syllable is stressed. You use a slightly greater force while saying this syllable.
pho - TO - gra - phy

Let us take a few more examples

li - THO - gra - phy
ge - O - gra - phy
bi - O - gra - phy

Try this tip from now on. This will significantly improve your Pronunciation and Accent. I hope this helps.

Happy Talking !!!
