Sleep is verb and it refers the act of sleeping. Asleep is noun and it refers the state of sleeping.

Both the sentences express the same meaning. But, the second one is preferred by the English people because this one is more live than the earlier one. In our mother tongue, we use several these types of expressions. Is not that?

Second 1 is correct because this sentence is in present perfect form. When we turn it into passive voice, we have to include a "been" with the helping verb.
