Yoga is an ancient science, which is supposed to be propounded by Hiranyagarbha. You can find this in the ancient Vedic literature. Also Adiyogi or Shiva is supposed to be first yogi, who is also the first teacher who taught yoga to seven deciples, or the saptarishi and his wife Parvati. But today we can find evidence about yoga upto 5000 years ago, which is the period of Maharishi Patanjali, where he wrote the Yoga Sutra.
