This Phonics class is designed for young learners, typically aged 4-7, who are beginning their reading journey. We cater to students at various stages of phonics development, from those just starting to recognize letter sounds to those building fluency with simple words.
In this class, students will learn:
* Level 1: Foundation Skills (Pre-Phonics): Developing phonemic awareness through activities like rhyming, alliteration, and segmenting spoken words. Identifying and naming letters of the alphabet.
* Level 2: Basic Phonics: Learning the most common sounds of individual letters (consonants and short vowels). Blending sounds together to read simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. Introduction to digraphs (sh, ch, th) and beginning consonant blends (bl, cr, st).
* Level 3: Advanced Phonics: Exploring long vowel sounds, vowel teams (ai, ee, oa), and r-controlled vowels (ar, er, ir). Learning more complex consonant blends and digraphs. Practicing reading and spelling multisyllabic words.
* Level 4: Fluency and Application: Building reading fluency through repeated readings of decodable texts. Applying phonics knowledge to read and spell a wider range of words. Developing comprehension skills through reading simple stories.
Students should bring a notebook, pencils, and an eagerness to learn. We may also use flashcards, letter tiles, and decodable readers, which will be provided by the instructor. A positive attitude and a willingness to participate are the most important things to bring!
