Seats for students who clear the cutoff in the NEET UG exam are allotted through a structured counseling process. Here’s a brief overview:

1. Result Declaration: After the NEET UG exam, the National Testing Agency (NTA) releases the results, including the merit list.

2. All India Rank (AIR): Candidates are assigned an All India Rank based on their performance.

3. Counseling Process:Centralized Counseling: Conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) for All India Quota (AIQ) seats (15% of total seats in government medical colleges).

State Counseling: Each state conducts its own counseling for the remaining 85% of seats in government colleges and for all seats in private colleges.

4. Choice Filling: Candidates must fill in their preferred colleges and courses during the counseling registration.

5. Seat Allocation: Seats are allotted based on

    a)Candidate’s AIR

      b)Preferences filled

      c)Availability of seats

6. Multiple Rounds: There are usually multiple rounds of counseling (rounds 1 and 2, followed by a mop-up round) to ensure maximum seat occupancy.

7. Reporting: Once allotted a seat, candidates must report to the designated college to complete the admission process.

This process ensures that seats are allocated fairly based on merit and preferences.
