You have already studied several properties of triangles in the previous two chapters.
You’ll now learn about Quadrilaterals. Just like a triangle has three sides, three angles
and three vertices, a quadrilateral is formed when you join four points in some order. A
quadrilateral has four sides, four angles and four vertices.
In this chapter, you’ll learn about various types of quadrilaterals and their properties.
You need to study quadrilaterals because the world around us is full of objects, which
are actually quadrilaterals! Your book, the chessboard, the window of your room,
picture frame, etc. are amongst them.

Section 8.2 – In this section, you’ll learn about the ‘Angle sum property of a
quadrilateral’. You’ll also be able to prove why the sum of the angles of a quadrilateral is
360º.
Section 8.3 – In this section, you’ll learn about different types of Quadrilaterals such as
trapezium, parallelograms, rectangle, rhombus, square and kite. Each type is explained
with figures for better understanding.
Section 8.4 – Parallelogram, which is also a Quadrilateral, has some very interesting
